Pink the Place Out & Pops

This past Saturday we attended the Oklahoma Sooner Women's basketball game. It was the "Pink the Place Out" game in honor of Kay Yow.  Kay Yow lost her fight to breast cancer in January. She was diagnosed with it in 1987.

Kay Yow was the head coach for North Carolina. She had more than 700 career wins and won an Olympic gold medal in Seoul as the head coach for the U.S. women's basketball team.
She is truly a legacy!

The stadium was packed to capacity for the game. They had pink t-shirts on every chair for everyone to put on.

It meant even more to me at this point in my life because of my mom having breast cancer and now my mother-in-law. I pray for a cure everyday.  Having two daughters makes me want a cure in the very near future!

My mother-in-law is the secretary/treasurer for the women's booster club. That means she has AWESOME seats for every game. We literally sit right behind the girls bench. It's exciting!

We played #5 Baylor and won by 8. It was such a close game.
This team is full of players that are related to professional athletes. The Paris twins father is Bubba Paris and he played for 49er's. Carlee Roethlisberger is sister to Ben Roethlisberger, quarterback for the Pittsburg Steelers. Abi Olajuwon is daughter to Hakeem Olajuwon who played for the Lakers. Yes, we've definitely got some talent on this team.
And, right down the row from where we were sitting was Ben himself with about 6 other players from the Steelers.  Can I just say he is super good-looking?! LOL!  I couldn't get a very good picture because there were too many heads in the way and I was using my phone camera. I did catch him signing an autograph on his way out.

On our way home Sunday we drove up route 66 to Arcadia, OK.  It's just a little blip in the road but they have a now famous diner called Pops. It is the oddest shaped building. It's glass on the front and back and it literally has 100's of different kinds of pops.  Pop is what we here in the central US call soda.

We bought all kinds of creme soda and other flavors. My childhood favorite pop is Peach Nehi. I was thrilled to see it there. Oh, it is yummy!

Arcadia is also home to a famous round barn. It really is cool looking.
After we left Pops we were driving up 66 to the next town to get on the turnpike to head home. On our drive we passed this really wild looking place. I made Brett turn back so I could get some pictures. It's actually a museum.  Here are the pictures.

I also wanted to let you know about something Georgie is doing on her blog.  It's called the Love Dare. It is a book that the movie Fireproof is based on. It is 40 days of things to do to improve your marriage. I believe we are on day 5 so it's not to late to participate.
Check it out HERE if you are interested. I know I want my marriage to be everything God intended it to be.

Also, some of you may have noticed that you lost some followers on Monday.  Blogger has done something different for the anonymous followers. If you want to make a quick fix go HERE to read how to do it. While you're there tell Eighty MPH Mom - Jenn hello!  Thank you Jenn for helping us all out! =)

*I'm behind on blog reading and commenting. Please bear with me as I'm trying to catch up. I love reading your blogs and feel so guilty if I miss even one post!  But, dang, it's sometimes hard to keep up!

Pops is just a few miles from where i live!!! we don't go there often enough... we spend too much money on trying new bottle drinks when we go! ha

I am so jealous.....I want to go to the next "pink" game. I found a T-shirt, but am not so sure I could wear it except as a night shirt it says "I love my Big TaTa's"! I had a pic, but I changed phones and now can't get my pics off....

What a great day y'all had. I love the 'pink the place out'. Great idea.

Don't worry too much about missing posts. Life just gets in the way sometimes. We all have the same problem.

I was suring the tv the other night and saw the game with all the pink shirts. I wondered what the deal was and now I know.
Route 66 between Edmond and Tulsa may have a 100 geocaches by now. So that's another attraction.
Pop's is my list of want to go places.

I loved seeing all the pink shirts!

I drove by the round barn in Arcadia all the time going between my parents home and Edmond. Thanks for the picture! It is looking much better now than it did back then!

AWESOME...I loved the pink uniforms...what a great way to honor a wonderful coach...looks like you all had fun....The weirdest thing is that in the last week two Oklahoma bloggers have blogged about Pops...I have never heard of it muchless been there...and I have lived in OKC most of my life and I'm now living in Edmond and still didn't know where or what it was....Today on the way to bible study at a friends house from church for the first time...I missed the turn and then drove too far and ended up turning around in the parking lot of Pops...SERIOUSLY? What are the odds? We are gonna try to go there over Spring Break on the $2 Tuesday hamburger day! how fun!

Great post, girl. What a wonderful way to support breast cancer. I didn't realize your mom had it too. Geez.
Loved the Route 66 pictures. How was the food at Pops? I'm assuming you can eat there as well as drink your fill!

Love Pop's and the Round Barn in Arcadia.

What a great night to be in Norman. Boomer Sooner. My son has a poster with a lot of those players on it and a picture with a lot of those players from when he was in Children's.
They are not only GREAT girls on the court, but having the experience of them visiting my son at OU Med Center I know they are a great bunch of young ladies off the court too!
